UMNOS’s and PSD’s statement on scholarships – an outright lie

PSD scholarships, 55% for the Bumi’s and 45% for non bumis (TV 3 News 8pm on 28/5/08) is an outright lie by UMNO. Indians get only about 2% of these scholarships. Get to the point UMNO. IF the above 55:45% is true then UMNO Minister Nazri would have replied to Chong Eng (B.M.) and agreed to publish the said names of recipients, their grades etc. UMNO could have made this statement before the 25th of November and the Indians may have believed the same. UMNO has to move away from these obsolete cheap media propaganda and gimmicks. You cannot be hoodwinking all the people all the time. Try harder in Parliament the next time Minister Datuk Nazri and UMNO!

Young Indians are struggling to get PSD scholarships and public university places. Young UMNO graduate is talking about her RM 8 Billion profits. (NST Biz news 28/5/08 pg 41) Nur Azrin who holds a Bachelor of Science Biotechnology from University Malaya has been issued a license by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry to produce biodiesel to her company Agro Biotechnology Technovation (M) Sdn Bhd (ABT) which is building the country’s largest biodiesel plant in Kuala Lukut Port Dickson for RM 900 Million. With this kind of caliber, the last thing UMNO should do is to even deny 40,000 Indian children even their birth certificates (in Selangor alone) giving only 2% of the Indians PSD scholarships locally and less than 1% for foreign universities. Tamil school pupils having to study in cabins, JKR stores and even under the trees as their schools eaten by white ants are falling apart. How cruel can UMNO be? Just compare the RM 8 Billion profits they are making to the position of the Indians. And after all these UMNO insists on Malay Supremacy and the Indians to be their slaves!

Of the 2000 PSD successful recipients, 151 were put on fast lane because of their academic record and economic background. We immediately short listed them because they got 10 1As and were from poor families earning below RM 1,500.00 a month. “Of the 151, 117 were Bumiputeras and 35 were non Bumiputeras” says PSD Director General Tan Sri Ismail Adain (NST 29/05/08 pg 9) UMNO and PSD are beating around the bush. If you have nothing to hide and are telling the truth, why are you not wanting to publish the names of the successful recipients, their grades and also the unsuccessful list and their grades and the criteria for having rejected them? The ground reality shows that only about 2% of Indian students are getting PSD scholarships locally and a mere 1% for overseas courses where the government has allocated RM 1.7 Billion for the next five years. UMNOS’s and PSD’s statement does not reflect the ground reality at all. Just run through the Tamil dailies on high achieving students and their rejection and you will know the truth you already know.
